Object history According to Renaissance art historian Giorgio Vasari the painting had been commissioned by the Vallombrosan monks for the main altar of Santa Trinita, Florence, this altarpiece was replaced in 1471 by the Trinità by Alessio Baldovinetti and moved into a side chapel. Later it was transferred into the monastery infirmary and 1810 under Napoleon into the Galleria dell'Accademia and 1919 into Uffizi.
